Best hosting for AU & NZ — Oceania ping / closest server locations
If half the Discord is in Auckland or Sydney, a “cheap US East” box is a tax on every session. This page maps which of our tracked hosts advertise Australia, Singapore, or Asia-Pacific nodes, how to ping-test before you pay, and what NZ→Sydney / NZ→Singapore / NZ→US usually feels like. Stock changes — treat every location as a checkout checkbox, not a blog promise.
The job: lowest honest ping for an Oceania squad
- Pick geography first, brand second. RAM and Oxide matter (see nights 1–4) only after the node is close enough.
- No NZ datacentre on most hosts. Almost everyone routes NZ players to Sydney (best Tasman path) or sometimes Melbourne. Nodecraft’s Sydney FAQ also mentions an Auckland location — confirm availability on order.
- Singapore is the SEA hub: great for SG/MY/ID; usually worse than Sydney for NZ-heavy groups (~90–120 ms cited on Nodecraft’s Sydney page for SG→Sydney, so the reverse is in that ballpark).
- US West / East is the fallback when Oceania stock is dead — playable for some games, miserable for twitchy PvP.
- Stock & plan tiers: Bisect Sydney/SG pages have shown out-of-stock; PebbleHost marks some locations Premium-only. Always verify the game you want is actually offered in that region.
Typical ping bands (expectations, not guarantees)
Numbers below are order-of-magnitude guides from host-published tables and common Oceania routing — your ISP path can be better or worse. Always measure yourself.
| You are in… | → Sydney / Melbourne | → Singapore | → US West (e.g. Oregon/CA) | → US East |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Auckland / north NZ | ~25–40 ms (Nodecraft cites ~24–34 ms Auckland→Sydney) | Often ~90–150 ms · TBD per path | Often ~140–180 ms · TBD | Often ~200 ms+ · TBD |
| Wellington / south NZ | ~28–45 ms (Nodecraft cites ~28–40 ms to Sydney) | Usually higher than Auckland · TBD | Often similar to Auckland + a bit · TBD | Worse than West · TBD |
| Sydney / east AU | Single-digit to low teens locally | ~90–120 ms (Nodecraft Sydney page cites SG/Jakarta → Sydney in that band) | Often ~150–200 ms · TBD | Often ~200 ms+ · TBD |
| Melbourne / south AU | Local or ~10–20 ms to Sydney | Similar to Sydney→SG · TBD | TBD | TBD |
| Perth / WA | ~45–60 ms to Sydney (Nodecraft); Melbourne sometimes slightly better | Sometimes competitive with east-AU paths · ping both | TBD | TBD |
| SEA (SG / MY / ID) | Often ~90–120 ms to Sydney | Ideal (single digits locally) | Usually worse than SG local · TBD | Worse · TBD |

Who advertises Oceania / APAC nodes?
Checked against public location / hardware / KB pages (Oct 2026). “Advertised” ≠ “in stock for your game tonight.”
| Host | AU / NZ nodes advertised | Singapore / other APAC | How to ping-test | Caveats | Best for Oceania squads |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shockbyte AU brand | Australia as a selectable location (Melbourne-based company). KB groups NZ with Asia-Pacific → pick Australia or Asia, whichever is closer. | Singapore, Japan, India listed among Asia-Pacific locations (Oct 2026 comparison / hardware coverage ~15 locations). | Test hosts: au.shockbyte.com, sg.shockbyte.com (also na / eu) — from location KB | Confirm the game you want is offered on the AU/SG node at checkout. Location moves change IP/port. | Strong default for NZ/AU Discord when AU stock is up — ping au vs sg before buying. |
| Apex Hosting | Sydney, Australia listed under Oceania on server-specs (legacy i7-7700K noted on that row — hardware varies by product line). Australia marketing page + EX Series APAC Ryzen 7 5800X. | Singapore + Tokyo on specs page; blog historically announced SG test IP sg.apexmc.co. | Use Apex’s on-site location / ping tester before purchase (linked from Australia and game pages). | Sydney hardware generation on the public specs table may differ from US Ryzen 9 rows — ask if wipe-day CPU matters (Rust). | Good when you want Sydney or SG plus polished support; confirm node on the exact plan. |
| BisectHosting | Sydney, AU location page (lists Auckland / Christchurch among “enjoy great connection” cities). Sitemap: Sydney among 21 locations. | Singapore, Mumbai, Hong Kong on sitemap / location pages. | sydney.bisecthosting.com, singapore.bisecthosting.com latency widgets on location pages. | stock Sydney & Singapore pages have shown Out of stock / waitlist. Free location swaps claimed on Bisect One when capacity exists. | Excellent when in stock; do not buy until the selector shows your city available. |
| GameTeam | Australia: TBD on public pages we checked (Factorio FAQ copy says datacenters across North America, Europe, and Asia — AU not named). | Singapore listed on homepage location strip; staff comments also mention Tokyo / Hong Kong — treat extra cities as TBD until visible at order. | No public au.* test hostname found — ping after selecting region in checkout / ask support (location-change KB exists). | “25+ locations” marketed; exact AU presence unclear. Oceania-first squads should not assume Sydney. | SEA-leaning Discords if SG is selectable; NZ/AU-majority groups should prefer hosts with explicit Sydney. |
| Nodecraft | Sydney + Melbourne location pages. Sydney FAQ states an Auckland location for all-NZ groups — confirm on the order form (strongest NZ story in this set if Auckland is live). | Singapore (Paya Lebar) location page; Tokyo also in network. | Live browser ping widgets on each location page (Sydney / Melbourne / Singapore). | Lite vs Premium: some games discourage Lite. Game must be supported in the chosen region. | Best published Oceania map for mixed AU+NZ squads — Sydney for NZ-heavy, Melbourne for south/west AU, SG for SEA. |
| PebbleHost | Sydney, Australia on Minecraft location / AU pages. Help centre: Australia (Sydney) listed; older KB text said Premium-only for AU — confirm current Budget vs Premium. | Singapore Premium on Minecraft location pages; India Premium also listed. | ping.pebblehost.com | Oceania evidence is strongest for Minecraft. Other games (e.g. Rust product pages) did not clearly advertise AU/SG — treat cross-game as TBD. | Budget Minecraft in Sydney when the tier allows; ping-test and confirm plan tier before assuming Premium-only nodes. |

Decision tree for NZ / AU Discord
- Mostly NZ + east AU: shortlist hosts with explicit Sydney (Shockbyte AU, Apex Sydney, Bisect Sydney if in stock, Nodecraft Sydney, PebbleHost Minecraft Sydney).
- Mostly Victoria / SA / TAS / Perth: prefer Melbourne when listed (Nodecraft); else Sydney is usually still fine.
- Mostly SEA + a few Kiwis: try Singapore, but have NZ members ping Sydney vs SG — don’t guess.
- All NZ and Nodecraft Auckland is available: that is the latency winner on paper — confirm game + stock.
- Oceania sold out: US West beats US East for most Kiwi/Aussie paths; still buy monthly and keep watching stock.
Then jump to the game page (nights 1–4) for RAM / mods / wipe tooling on that same host.
How to ping-test before you pay
- Have every regular player run the host’s test (browser widget, au.* hostname, or Minecraft/Rust test server).
- Record wired vs Wi-Fi separately — blame the AP before you blame Sydney.
- Buy monthly for the first month; move location if the host allows (Shockbyte / Bisect / Nodecraft document moves; IP will change).
- Re-test on wipe night or peak evening AEST/NZDT — idle Sunday morning lies.
