Mods & plugins comparison — easy installs without a DIY VPS
Friend groups usually want “click the pack, don’t SSH.” This page maps what Shockbyte, Apex, BisectHosting, GameTeam, Nodecraft, and PebbleHost advertise for Minecraft plugins/modpacks, Valheim BepInEx, Palworld mods, and Rust Oxide/uMod. Claims come from public product and KB pages (Oct 2026). Anything unclear is TBD.
The job: panel mods, not a Linux homework assignment
- Minecraft: Paper/Purpur plugins vs Forge/Fabric/NeoForge modpacks (CurseForge, Modrinth, FTB, Technic, ATLauncher).
- Valheim: BepInEx loader + Thunderstore / ValheimPlus plugins (server + matching clients).
- Palworld: historically .pak / file uploads; 1.0 Workshop packages are a different (often Windows-oriented) story — confirm your host’s OS and loader.
- Rust: Oxide / uMod (and sometimes Carbon) plugin frameworks + wipe-safe backups.
- Still DIY: FTP/SFTP + file manager exists on every serious host — “no one-click” ≠ “impossible.”
Comparison: advertised mod tooling by host
One row per host. Filter by game. Counts (2,000+ / 2,300+ / 460+) are what the host prints — libraries change.
| Host | Minecraft | Valheim | Palworld | Rust | Best for this job |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shockbyte | One-click modpack installer · 2000+ packs · CurseForge + Modrinth in panel KB · Forge / Fabric / NeoForge types · FTB / Technic / ATL / BYO called out on modded MC page · Paper/plugins via server types | Use BepInEx toggle in Config (KB) · ValheimPlus support on Valheim product page · FTP for plugin .dlls | Product page did not spell out a one-click mod browser when we checked earlier nights — treat Palworld mods as TBD / FTP | Auto-install Oxide · uMod · plugin support · auto-wipe on Rust product page | Minecraft modpacks + Rust Oxide without leaving the panel; Valheim BepInEx is a config flip. |
| Apex Hosting | Modbox one-click mod browser with CurseForge integration · version matching · one-click modpack installers in KB · Forge/Fabric paths documented | Full FTP / panel file access · dedicated Valheim “mod path” marketed on game pages · BepInEx one-click TBD on product copy (confirm in panel) | Public guide: How to Install Palworld Mods on Your Server — path exists; not the same as Minecraft Modbox. Expect file/Workshop steps, not CurseForge one-click. | One-click Oxide/uMod widely documented for Apex Rust · custom maps via panel | Minecraft Modbox polish + Rust Oxide; Palworld via guided file install. |
| BisectHosting | 2,300+ modpacks auto-install library · CurseForge creator partnership page · Modrinth / Technic / GDLauncher / custom-mod KB section · Forge vs Fabric guides | Integrated BepInEx + custom modpack installer on Valheim product page · Startup toggle · .r2z Thunderstore/R2 profile import (KB) | “Full mod support” on Palworld product page · details of one-click vs FTP TBD beyond that claim | Integrated Oxide & Carbon on Rust product page · Rust+ · beta branch | Broadest “modded everything” story if your location is in stock (see Night 5). |
| GameTeam | AI copilot installs from CurseForge + Modrinth · Paper / Purpur / Forge / Fabric / NeoForge version installer · one-click mod updates marketed on homepage | Valheim FAQ describes BepInEx + Thunderstore client/server match · dedicated one-click UI depth TBD vs AI chat | AI copilot marketed for server setup · Palworld-specific mod installer UI TBD | No dedicated Rust landing when checked (Night 4) — Oxide tooling TBD if Rust appears in catalog | Minecraft-first “ask the AI to install JEI” squads; verify other games in panel before wipe night. |
| Nodecraft | 460+ one-click modpacks · filters for CurseForge, Modrinth, FTB, Technic, ATLauncher · plugin frameworks listed | One-Click Installer: BepInEx Valheim / Valheim Plus · Mods tab with Thunderstore integration · manual .dll upload (KB) | Product page: pre-installed UE4SS / Modded Support build · Steam Workshop collection one-click claimed · swap vanilla ↔ modded | One-Click Installer: uMod (Oxide) with Merge option (KB) · manual Linux Oxide zip path documented | Clearest cross-game installer docs in this set (MC + Valheim Thunderstore + Palworld modded build + Rust Oxide). |
| PebbleHost | Universal modpack installer · CurseForge / FTB / Modrinth / ATLauncher / custom · Forge / Fabric / NeoForge · Premium lists 12,000+ modpacks · plugin installer in panel feature list | Full FTP / gamepanel · dedicated Valheim one-click BepInEx browser TBD on product page (file upload always available) | Panel + FTP · Epic crossplay FAQ · one-click Palworld mod browser TBD | Built-in Oxide plugin installer (FAQ + billing copy) · mods & maps supported | Budget Minecraft modpacks + Rust Oxide; Valheim/Palworld more DIY unless panel shows otherwise. |

By game — short picks (not rankings)
- Minecraft modpack night: Shockbyte, Bisect (2,300+), Nodecraft (460+), PebbleHost Premium (12,000+ claim), Apex Modbox, GameTeam AI — all advertise one-click or AI install. Match RAM to the pack (Night 1).
- Minecraft plugins only (Paper): every host here supports plugin JARs via panel or FTP; GameTeam/Shockbyte/Bisect document Paper/Purpur paths clearly.
- Valheim BepInEx: Nodecraft (Thunderstore in panel) and Bisect (BepInEx + .r2z) are the most explicit; Shockbyte Config toggle; others = FTP/`plugins` folder.
- Palworld: Nodecraft’s modded/UE4SS + Workshop claim is the clearest product-page story; Apex publishes install guides; others lean FTP/.pak. Confirm Windows vs Linux if you need official 1.0 server packages.
- Rust Oxide: Shockbyte auto-install, Bisect Oxide+Carbon, Nodecraft one-click uMod, PebbleHost plugin installer, Apex one-click — strong field. Pair with wipe tooling (Night 4).
Caveats squads forget
- Client sync: Valheim/Palworld/Minecraft modpacks usually need matching client installs — server-only admin plugins are the exception.
- RAM: “One-click” does not shrink ATM10. See game pages for floors.
- Crossplay vs mods: console friends often cannot run Thunderstore/.pak stacks — decide before you promise Epic Loot.
- Backups before install: every host above markets backups; snapshot before the first heavy pack.
- Oceania: pick the node (Night 5) before you fall in love with a mod UI.
