Project Zomboid modded hosting — Workshop / collections / map mods for a friends squad (2026)

This page is for modded Project Zomboid — Steam Workshop collections, map overhauls, and dense Build 42 mod packs for a Discord squad — not a quiet 4–8-friend vanilla Knox County wipe. It is not the same job as Night 13 Project Zomboid friend hosting (Build 42 RAM/Oceania first, mods light), Night 76 DayZ modded (Workshop / Expansion), Night 78 Unturned modded (OpenMod / RocketMod), or Night 10 7 Days to Die (different engine/SKU). Among our six hosts (checked 24 Oct 2026, NZDT): Shockbyte, Apex, BisectHosting, Nodecraft, and GameTeam sell Project Zomboid (product URLs returned 200). PebbleHost returned 404 on Project Zomboid product paths and Zomboid is absent from its /game/ catalog we read — curl HEAD 403 is not absence; we used full GET. Workshop / collection claims below come only from each host’s own Zomboid product copy or FAQ — we do not invent one-click Workshop installers.

RAM honesty: modded vs friend-vanilla

  • Friend vanilla / light mods (Night 13 job): hosts often card around 6–8 GB for a small Discord (Shockbyte Metal Pipe 6 GB / Chainsaw 8 GB+; Nodecraft “Best for Vanilla” 6 GB Premium; GameTeam FAQ 4–8 GB). Apex prints 2 GB “Minimum for Project Zomboid” — treat that as a floor label, not a Build 42 modded target.
  • Modded Workshop collections / map mods (this page): treat 8–12 GB+ as the working floor when collections, map packs and long-running streamed cells pile up. Shockbyte Chainsaw 8 GB+; Nodecraft labels 8 GB “Best for Light Modding” / 12 GB “Best for Heavy Modding”; Apex 6 GB card (or Custom/EX) for denser stacks. Do not reuse DayZ Expansion or Unturned OpenMod RAM tables — different products.
  • Slots ≠ RAM: 6 / 10 / 16+ “player” marketing is a ceiling. Spread-out survivors keep more map cells loaded than the same group in one town — pay for GB and a documented Workshop path, not the biggest slot number on the card.
  • Client + server: Workshop mods need matching client downloads; server config usually needs both WorkshopItems and Mods lists (GameTeam FAQ spells this out). Host panel tooling only helps the dedicated side — confirm the mod page before wipe night.

Workshop / collections / map mods — host claims only

  • Shockbyte: Product features list Full Mod Support; copy points at a Steam Workshop install guide (“super simple installation process”). Build 42 marketed as available. Clearest named Workshop-guide story among fixed tiers.
  • Apex Hosting: Zomboid landing markets panel ability to “install mods”, change the map, FTP, automatic backups. Steam Workshop is not named on the Zomboid product copy we read (TBD in panel/docs) — do not invent a one-click Workshop claim. 2 GB labeled “Minimum for Project Zomboid”; 6 GB “basic & some modpacks”; EX 16 GB for heavy loads / APAC Ryzen 7 5800X.
  • BisectHosting: Landing claims Fully Integrated Steam Workshop Support, automatic game updates, 3 days of free backups, game swap across 110+ titles. Exact $/GB did not render on the page we read (TBD at checkout; showed “… / GB”); BisectOne llms.txt cites ~$2.99/GB network-wide — not a Zomboid-specific printed plan total.
  • Nodecraft: Markets Build 42 Ready and 1-click Steam Workshop Mod Management in the web control panel; Premium cards include 8 GB “Best for Light Modding” / 12 GB “Best for Heavy Modding”. Lite / Wake & Play is labeled “Not recommended for this game” — use Premium 24/7 for persistence.
  • GameTeam: FAQ: “Can I install mods when hosting Project Zomboid? Yes, through Steam Workshop.” Hard claim: Workshop IDs in WorkshopItems and mod IDs in Mods — both lists must be set. Marketing also demos an AI “add the mods I want” flow — treat the FAQ dual-list path as the hard claim; confirm the AI path in panel before promising the squad.
  • PebbleHost: Project Zomboid product URLs we tried returned 404; Zomboid absent from /game/ catalog (24 Oct 2026). No sellable Zomboid SKU to quote for mods or price — 404, not invented TBD pricing.

Zomboid modding is not Minecraft “one-click modpacks.” Backup first, match Workshop IDs on every client, set both config lists, and expect map-mod / collection deps to be Build 41 vs Build 42 specific.

Comparison: modded Project Zomboid plans

Price sources: every figure below comes from the host’s own Project Zomboid product / pricing page (checked 24 Oct 2026, NZDT). Recurring monthly preferred; first-month sales disclosed where shown. 404 when the product URL returned not found. TBD when a sellable host had no clear plan total or Workshop claim. Product URLs that sell returned 200 — curl HEAD 403 is not absence; we used full GET. Confirm at checkout — stock and location change.

Oceania / AU–NZ–SG latency wedge

  • Nodecraft: Sydney / Melbourne / Auckland / Singapore listed on the Zomboid page — best published Oceania/SEA story; Premium 24/7 for persistence; confirm Zomboid capacity on order.
  • Shockbyte: Melbourne-based + Zomboid product page — still pick the node on order and ping-test with Workshop loaded (melee/zombie desync hurts on long routes).
  • Apex: EX Series APAC/AU Ryzen 5800X marketed — confirm Sydney (or closest) for standard tiers at checkout.
  • BisectHosting: Australia exists network-wide — stock/waitlist has appeared; treat as a checkout checkbox.
  • GameTeam: Oceania for Zomboid not named on the page we read — TBD.
  • PebbleHost: no Zomboid SKU — Oceania notes do not transfer.

Buy monthly through the first week with your Workshop / collection list loaded, measure everyone’s ping, then commit. See the Oceania ping guide.

Practical shortlist (not rankings)

  • Want named Workshop guide + fixed tiers on the product page: Shockbyte Chainsaw 8 GB+ ($20.00) — confirm AU node at checkout.
  • Want AU/NZ/SG nodes + named 1-click Workshop Mod Management: Nodecraft Premium 8–12 GB — skip Lite / Wake & Play for Zomboid persistence.
  • Named Fully Integrated Workshop + game-swap panel: BisectHosting BisectOne — only if your region is in stock; price TBD on Zomboid landing.
  • Budget dual-list Workshop FAQ on paper: GameTeam at 8–12 GB — ping-test if Oceania matters.
  • PebbleHost: honest 404 for Project Zomboid today — do not force a cart.
  • Quiet Build 42 friend vanilla / light mods instead: see Night 13 — different job, often Shockbyte Chainsaw 8 GB ($20.00) or Metal Pipe 6 GB ($16.99).
