Left 4 Dead 2 dedicated hosting for a small friend group (2026)

Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) is a light Source game. A four-player co-op campaign or a 4v4 Versus night runs fine on 1–2 GB. Shockbyte, Nodecraft, GameTeam and Bisect all sell it. Prices below were read from each host’s own page.

RAM and slots

  • Co-op campaign (4 players): 1 GB is enough. Shockbyte’s Hunter tier is 1 GB with 5 slots, and GameTeam’s FAQ says 1–2 GB.
  • Versus 4v4 (8 players): Shockbyte’s Witch tier is 3 GB with 8 slots.
  • Lots of SourceMod plugins or custom campaigns: add RAM headroom. Nodecraft and GameTeam don’t cap slots.

Mods, SourceMod and custom campaigns

  • Bisect: one-click SourceMod and MetaMod installers, full mod support.
  • Nodecraft: one-click installer for Workshop and other mods.
  • GameTeam: SourceMod plugins, custom campaigns and mutations. It also sets up fast download, so joining players get the custom maps.
  • Shockbyte: mod support and full file access.
  • Custom campaigns are big downloads. Set up fast download or Workshop collections so friends don’t get kicked when they join. See Night 6.

Price sources: every price comes from the host’s own L4D2 page (fetched 24 Oct 2026, NZDT). No third-party or search-summary prices are used. For Nodecraft we quote the recurring price, not the first-month sale price. TBD means the host page showed no price, or the page URL we tried returned 404. Confirm at checkout.

Oceania note

Source-engine hit registration punishes high ping, and Versus Hunter pounces feel bad on a US server. AU/NZ groups should look at Nodecraft (Sydney and Melbourne), or check at checkout for an AU node on Shockbyte or GameTeam, or Bisect stock. See the Oceania ping guide.

Budget note and shortlist (not rankings)

  • Four friends running campaigns: Shockbyte Hunter, $4.99, which is well under the ~$20 budget.
  • 4v4 Versus: Shockbyte Witch ($11.99), or Nodecraft Premium 2 GB ($9.98) with unlimited slots.
  • Plugin-heavy server: price Bisect or GameTeam at checkout.
